The three different types of music video

Narrative- A narrative music video has a very clear beginning, middle and end. The actions tend to tell a story that match with the lyrics. The artist tends to be the protagonist ( play the most important role). It tends to use lip synching to tell a story. The narrative aids the visualisation of the lyrics and frames the artist as a narrator or participant, or sometimes a star. It illustrates, amplifies or contradicts the lyrics.
An example of this is Taylor Swift - Love Story.
Performance- A performance video shows the artists performing. This is usually used for a rock video to show thier enthusuiasm and their talent with the instruments.
Certain techniques are used such as close ups of the instruments.
Other elements can be used so that it isn't boring such as flashy shapes, lights etc.
An example of this is Little Boots - Remedy.
Conceptual- A conceptual video is one that doesn't contain a real meaning to it, it is very abstract. It may have elements of narrative, and may contain images that illustrate or contradict the lyrics.
An example of this is The Smashing Pumpkins - Thirty - Three
